Solidarity in a Crisis is expanding its peer-led Community Support Service to all unpaid carers in Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark who are in Crisis and struggling with their mental health through a partnership with Carers Hub Lambeth.
Solidarity’s Interim Manager Alex Robertson says Covid-19 is responsible for creating both a physical and mental health crisis. “For several months, our out-of-hours Crisis Line has seen unprecedented increases in demand. Unpaid carers have worked tirelessly helping to ensure others are kept safe during this incredibly difficult time. Lockdown and associated restrictions on movement and employment has resulted in fewer opportunities for unpaid carers to meet with others in social and work environments. This lack of opportunities and respite has resulted in a mental health pandemic amongst those who have helped protect the most vulnerable in society over the last few months.
“Through our partnership with the Carers Hub, we will be providing access to emotional support upon receipt of a referral. Self-referral is also possible in some instances.”
