SHARP move to BlueStar House

SHARP gallery is reopening at BlueStar House, Brixton and I am so excited about the first exhibition I am curating in the space.

Strephon Duckering has had a varied and interesting path in his career and life which has led him to photography and in turn, took to walking for his health- becoming an exercise in a kind of visual foraging where his curiosity led him.  Recording these curiosities through his photography lens, the exhibition displays “the happy outcomes of this ‘curiouser and curiouser’ discipline.”

Through the years I have curated 37 exhibitions at the SHARP gallery to date.  The curation of the shows revolves around the artists and their work.  I feel exploring the works myself helps me work through a way of displaying them, so they can be experienced by the audience in a way most authentic to the works and artist.

Strephon’s work is a journey through Brixton, a landscape of a place, marking the remnants of human activity, but without featuring the people who have shaped it.  He has delved into what has drawn him in and I think it will be interesting for people to see the findings of another person’s curiosity.  Visitors will be invited to consider where their own curiosity takes them.  How does our own lens see Brixton?

The exhibition will open soon. To sign up to the mailing list for updates please contact SHARPgallery@slam.nhs.uk

We look forward to welcoming you to the space.

Anna-Maria Amato, Curator
